While we were in Soroca, we had the opportunity to visit the Soroca Fortress, on the banks of the river looking towards what is now Ukraine, but was Poland. When I asked the guide how old this fortress was he told me, "it is older than your country!" It was built in 1430. I wish I had room to tell you the history we learned from this wonderful Moldovan guide. He has so much knowledge and was very interested and spoke very good English. You will notice that the fortress is round, he explained how the round fortress was almost impenatrable. Cannons mounted inside the towers could be pointed so every area outside was covered. All in all a great day.
